When buying a laptop, the memory is one of the most important things to check. You need sufficient memory for your laptop to function optimally. There are different types of SO-DIMM memory, which is the memory used in laptops. The first one is synchronous dynamic random access memory, commonly referred to as SDRAM. This type aligns itself to the laptop processor enabling smooth working together. It is mostly found in older versions of laptops and is absent in newer versions. The second is SDRAM with a double data rate or DDR SDRAM. It is faster than regular SDRAM and is quite popular in the laptops being made today. The last one is DDR2 SDRAM, which is the most advanced of the three. It is the fastest and has the advantage of using less power. Though they look similar, the pin-slots for both the DDR and DDR2 cannot fit into each other so do not attempt to interchange them lest you damage your machine.
The amount of laptop memory depends on your uses. Simple browsing and applications do not exhaust it as much as heavier applications will. It’s however good to check the maximum amount of memory your laptop can support in the manufacturer’s manual before overloading it.
